WIMLA-2022 (Workshop on Interaction and Multimodality in Language Acquisition 2022) will be an international workshop hosted by the Instituto de Investigaciones Filológicas, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. It is associated with a former workshop on Individual differences in language development, and with the meetings that the Red de Estudios de Adquisición del Lenguaje in Mexico celebrates each year since 2000. This time the Workshop focuses on Interaction and Multimodality in Language Acquisition.

In adopting this composite view, we acknowledge that language activities involve multimodal signs and messages that jointly and orderly integrate language and co-speech gestures in a prosodic envelope. We also recognize that the messages thus integrated inhabit the ecological niche of interaction, where children learn the language of their community through the experience of multimodal messages in the enchrony of interaction. We are fully aware that linguistic communities are a fertile field of differences in all these aspects.
